just a glimpse

"How did you ever get away from Nina?" Sarah teased Casey, who had to see the baby in her room.

"Oh, you know, she's got shopping, or yoga, something." Casey didn't know what to say. He was expecting a call from her any minute. "Her mother was coming over." A good reason to escape last minute. He told her it was stuff about the band.

"So how is she?" Sarah wanted to know.

"Very Nina." What else could he say. Their days were usually planned. "I spent Saturday at the golf course, with Dad." It felt odd calling him that, but they got about as far as the driving range and that was enough golfing for them, seeing how Casey had never golfed before. "He's pretty determined to get me in the country club." Nina loved the idea, but after all, he was a janitor. Casey didn't see himself, fitting in at the country club.

"Aw, don't look so sad." She let him hold the baby, and somehow, he felt more like an uncle now. He couldn't help but smile. Of course, he felt a little guilty being here, but he missed his friends and of course, the band.
