As soon as Benny walked in the door, Spencer asked Benny, to take him home.
"Dinner is at 6:30, and its..its kind of a big home coming dinner for me." Spencer told him while Keith was on the phone with the insurance people. "I should go."
Benny didn't have a problem with that. Naturally, Keith tried to keep Spencer there, but Benny knew Spencer wouldn't hear of it.
"See, they're happy, you're back." Benny said once he got his car started and they were on the road.
Spencer, looked out the window. Finally he looked back at Benny.
"I gotta a tattoo." Spencer shrugged.
"Really?" Benny was being his usual nonsocial self.
"I know, I should have waited. And let you do it." He shrugged, ever so sadly.
Benny shook his head. "Don't worry so much about pleasing everyone. OK? Don't worry about your brother. And don't hang out with people you'd rather not hang out with, either." He yawned then.
"Its not like that. Really. I wish things were different. I mean if I could just get Noah to be, you know, there-" Spencer started to explain.
"So he's the problem?" Benny asked.
"Could be. Not sure. You know." Spencer looked as if it were too late to change anything now. "Its just..he's not Gage. But then, Gage isn't Gage, either."
"Don't think about settling." Benny shook his head. "Just tell me, you won't."
Spencer shook his head.
Benny drove on, wondering when the last time they hung out. He wasn't mad at Spencer, anymore. He just realized.
"Yeah, I remember, when it was just you and me, at the comic book store. We should really check it out, some time. Just the two of us." Benny decided. They could be friends, again. Better friends.
