"So, we're good?" Keith looked at Benny then Fergie at the lawyer's office. The paperwork was standard procedure. Now all they needed was to talk this over with Trevor, but then Trevor didn't exactly have any rights at the moment, who was under aged and in jail. Keith wasn't even sure if Fergie was listening.
It was an open adoption. Except, Keith hoped Fergie didn't think they were going to raise her. She was going home after the baby was born. A part of him hated the idea that she was even here, but then he wouldn't want it any other way, either.
Keith supposed it would be a bit premature to go out and celebrate, but this looked like the real deal. They had a baby on the way. Still, he felt Fergie was expecting a new wardrobe. Probably a new phone plan with the smartest of smart phones.
"When do I get to see Trev?" Fergie looked at Keith as if he should have made arrangements. Why wasn't he here.
"I'm not sure if that's a good idea." Keith didn't want to cause trouble. Couldn't they do this quietly, and not think of the boy's feelings. Possibly, he didn't have any feelings about the baby, anyway.
"She's right." Benny was on her side. "If it's a completely open adoption, he needs to know everything."
Keith gave Benny a wince. He was suppose to be on his side. "Right." Could this get anymore difficult?
Soon enough they were back in the car and Benny was driving, but not home.
"Where are we going?" Keith looked at Benny as if he were lost.
"To see Trevor."
"Well, don't we have to make an appointment?' Keith squinted harder. Did they really have to do this today.
"I talked with them. Told them what was happening. Its been cleared. We can see Trevor." Benny nodded.
"OH MY GOD." Suddenly, Fergie wasn't the silent thing they knew.
Keith couldn't imagine this being good. It couldn't be. But they were at the Juvenile center where Trevor was staying.
"I wish you would have told me." Keith wanted a little warning here.
"If I left it up to you, it might not ever happen." Benny told him.
Keith wasn't sure he liked Benny's attitude.
