OK, they didn't win. They came in third. Still people were watching them. It was all good. And Sarah noticed now that Ste was holding her hand. Well, he was still holding Cameron's too. Some of the time. Of course, he hadn't let Cameron talk to her once. He was either whispering in Cameron's ear or kissing her cheek.
Sarah got it. They were together.
They walked to the small purple bus, where the band was loading up their stuff. The band looked so tired, drenched in sweat.
"Now where too?" Sarah thought this might be a good idea to look as if she were with Casey. She thought it might help her case about the band. She put her arm around Casey who just looked at her as if she were crazy, but that only lasted a second. He was casual. Naturally. And too tired to fuss with her.
"I dunno. We thought we might drink a few with the dudes from Lawrence." They were always cool college kids. And she and Casey were both twenty-two.
"Sure. Love too." She introduced Casey to Ste who had his arm around Cameron. Sarah looked over to see Lucy coming with her box of money that she kept in her trusty skull and crossbone makeup case. Ka-Rad was with her. He looked as if he'd tired of the spandex and now was just hanging in some baggy jeans. Bare chested and only in flip flops. He'd lit a little something and was sharing it with Benny. Spencer too.
Sarah wasn't sure she wanted Ste to see that. Especially, it Casey got a hold of it.
"We did good." Lucy smiled. "Want to see?" She held up the box.
"No, I believe you." Sarah told her. She looked at Ste hoping that might count for something. But he just whispered in Cameron's ear then.
Sarah was about to lose her patience. Ste was a fucking mystery and it was making her more and more uncomfortable. A part of her wanted him to go away, but she needed him to back the band.
