Little by little Cory was letting Lucy back in. Initially, when he saw what had happened to her, he'd squeezed her so. She knew then he'd never let her go.
She'd told him her father had done this to her and no way was she going to just turn him in. She just couldn't. She didn't want to end up in the foster care system. She was old enough to take care of herself. She had done so the last four years.
"It'll never happen, again. Promise." She had to keep promising herself too that she would never do something so fucking crazy. Ever.
Lucy studied the Jim Morrison poster in Cory's room now as he was messing with something on his old computer. She looked at Morrison's chest. She stared at his tits. Something made her sense how old he really was now. It disgusted her.
"And what about Ka-Rad?" Cory hit a nerve with him then. "Has he been around?"
"No." It wasn't exactly a lie. She hadn't seen him in weeks. Things had been quiet since the incident. Since their little digression. It felt sort of like a dream now. Lucy guessed it was best to keep it that way.
"Why do they call him Ka-Rad, anyway?" Cory winced.
"I'm not sure." She wasn't sure why he wanted to know. Lucy had her hands behind her back as she watched him now. Closer.
"Do you know his real name?" He asked. She nodded. Lucy had spied on his driver's license once.
"Todd. Todd Conrad." She nodded.
"I hate the name Todd." He told her then.
"Really? Why?" Lucy winced.
"Every Todd I've ever met, has always had a problem with me. I guess." Cory got up then as if he were ready to move on. Lucy guessed it was with her.
