Keith got a hold of his Dad right away when he found out about Spencer. His dad was ecstatic and couldn't wait to see him.
"What I don't understand is why he didn't just, you know, look for me?" Spencer said he was OK that his dad was coming, but he was getting anxious too.
"He's complicated. I mean, maybe he did. But he was out of work, kind of depressed." Keith shrugged.
"He was a drunk." Spencer stated. As if that was being more exact.
"Well, she was a drug addict." Keith reminded him.
Spencer just glared at Keith, yet he looked lost in his own house.
"It'll be OK. Really, he's happy. This will be the best Christmas present he could ever imagine, even if it is late. Finding you." Keith assured him.
"Yeah, I guess, but I'll just - just disappoint him." Spencer looked as if he might spill tears then, but he went to the kitchen and got busy.
"Believe me, it isn't going to be that big of a deal..that you're gay." Keith told him as he followed him to the kitchen.
"He puts up with me. He loves me. He'll love you too." Keith promised. "There were a lot times, I didn't know where we might end up." Keith thought of those days. He was glad those days were over. He wanted to ask more about their grandmother, but he guessed it could wait. Keith sat down at the kitchen table then and thought he might share something else with him.
"I don't guess you'd be upset if - if I were to see that friend of yours, again." Keith watched Spencer put dishes away.
"What friend?" Spencer winced.
"The one who stopped by to check on you." Keith looked at him.
"Benny?" Spencer squinted hard. "Are you serious?"
"Yeah, I think I am." Keith let a smile break through.
"Benny doesn't like anything." Spencer told him. "Besides, it was me who broke up his imaginary relationship with his last boyfriend. Benny's pretty much a solo act."
"Maybe he's ready for something else, now." Keith couldn't help but be hopeful. He thought their last time together went well. He was funny yet irresistible, too.
"Good luck on that." Spencer told him he'd need all the luck he could get with Benny.
