sparkle and fade

Lucy looked around for Todd, everywhere. Where could she have lost him at the grocery store? It wasn't that vast of a place. She'd stayed longer in the stationary isle than she was suppose too. She needed to illustrated her last school project. And then she'd be close to being done with high school. Except for that miserable term paper she had to write, on Shakespeare's love life. It sounded so exciting when she thought it up, but it was rather boring now when she investigated it. All the note taking was putting her to sleep. And footnotes, couldn't that teacher make up her mind?

She spotted Spencer. A part of her felt numb when she saw him. But there he was chatting up and all friendly with the fellow in the hairnet. She'd seen him without the hairnet. It was like having their very own 'Jasper Hale' without the vampness. He was really quite nice when it came to customer service. He always made her feel she was right and he was wrong. It just never occurred to her that he was gay. That sort of thing was a gray area to her now. Honestly, she didn't have the time to dwell on that sort of thing.

"Spencer!" Did she sound too excited to see him? She didn't mean too. "Hey, I'm so sorry I haven't been to any of the gigs." Yes, she'd make this about music. They had a mutual subject to talk about. That band. "How's the freakies doing?"

"Uh, well..Casey got married." Spencer finally spit out as he looked at her and her pregnant self. It wasn't a secret now. Not just a figment of anyone's imagination.

"Are you serious?" This was news. "God, I wonder how long that will last?"

"Who knows." Spencer shrugged. He was quiet then. "Good to see you." His voice sort of cracked. She really hadn't meant to upset him.

She looked over at the friendly face behind the glass counter. She smiled. He had no fear of wearing a hairnet.

"Good to see you two." She nodded with a smile. "Maybe..maybe you two.." She stopped. "Well, its good seeing you." She backed away. Her butt hit the canned goods on sale. Things started to topple. Luckily, Spencer and his friend went to stack the items back in place.
