Trouble has a name

It was just an accident that Casey bumped into Sarah's dad at the hardware store. Casey was finally getting around to the honey-do list that Nina had given him. He had to admit, the girl was organized. But he'd need tools and such to get things done with the toilet and the bathtub. There were a few loose tiles in the kitchen too.

Of course, he wasn't thinking anything of that when saw him gazing at the sandwich containers that they were not marketing to keep your nuts and bolts organized.

"You think you can still use these to put real nuts in, like cashews?" The man said actually to no one, but Casey was there, trying not to gaze at the silver haired man.

"Yeah, I do it all time." Casey nodded.

Finally he looked over at Casey and gave him a hearty handshake. Told him it was nice to see he was married. He'd read it in the paper.

It caught Casey off guard. Casey wanted to say, "Don't you have anything to tell me?" But Casey kept staring at the father he never knew he had, and he supposed he'd better keep it together, considering Sarah's circumstances. This was no time to start up a conversation about the matter of his sister and how he'd fooled around with her a few years ago.

"Why are they keeping Sarah in jail?" Casey squinted.

"Oh, they got a trail of paperwork that's just irritating. Her lawyer can't seem to get anywhere. I'm thinking now, they might be doing it for her own good. Like they want someone to believe they've caught the culprit, when they really haven't." Her dad, Will shrugged.

"Can they do that?" Casey was no lawyer.

"Obviously, they are." Will looked as if he couldn't do a thing about it.

"Well, it would be real shitty if she has her baby while she's in jail." Casey told him.

"What?" Now he had Will's attention. "Sarah's having a baby?"

"I -I figured you knew." Casey looked at him blankly.

"Damn, I'm ready to ring someone's neck," Will said under his breath.

Casey couldn't help but give a sly smile. He wasn't talking about Sarah now, but someone who was staying at Sarah's.

It's surprising to see an underhanded side of Casey. :/
