another summer night

The weather was thick with humidity and not a breeze, anywhere, but still, the place needed to be painted and spoofed up before it could open. Of course, Todd was a little distracted. And there was the thought that nobody would come in to the place for everything. Even so, they had permits signed and the like, so that was a go. Just a few extras and it would be open for business.

Spencer showed up to help, along with Keith and Benny. Todd wasn't sure what to think. He felt a little lost as he looked at the pails of colors waiting to be painted on the walls.

"I should have just gone with white." He must have had some sort of his old self moment when he thought this up. It looked like something for a little girls room.

"No..no..don't say that." Spencer shook his head, no.

"I feel like I'm setting myself up for a huge fall." Todd sighed.

"But you've been thinking about this for months, you know. You can't put it on hold any longer." Spencer reminded him.

"I know." This was true. Todd set it up where he still worked every morning at the salon. He wouldn't be opening the place until noon everyday. He was only staying open til 8 at night, and of course, Sundays off.

"And you know, Cory's not back." Spencer shrugged.

"So."

"So we need you to fill in." Spencer exposed a grin then.

"As in?" Todd squinted then wondering what he could do.

"You know that we know..you can play." Spencer reminded him that he knew  Todd could play guitar or the keyboard.

"But its only by ear." He didn't think him much of a musician. He just played around when he thought nobody was listening.

"Precisely, exactly what we need." Spencer got ready to start on the room where the salon part would be.

"How did you know I wanted the dark pink for that?" Todd guessed Spencer knew him a lot better than he thought he did.

"Just a hunch." He started to work.

"I'd be happy to..you know, help..while Cory's gone. Its just I can't replace him. I just couldn't." Todd nodded. "He is coming back, isn't he?"

"Beats me," Spencer said a bit indifferent as he went to painting. "He's not one to send post cards, you know."

Todd wanted the best for Cory, and maybe the best for the band. Maybe it was time for Cory to move on.
