Todd looked at his savings account online. There was more money than he expected.
"Where the fuck did that come from?" He winced, thinking Craig must have had something to do with it. He'd never had this much money in his life. He'd always lived from one pay check to the next for the most part.
"What is it?" Lucy wanted to know.
"We, have money." He felt a little foolish now. They'd filled out paperwork right away to get on the WIC program.
"How much?" She was excited, taking a peak.
"Craig." Todd sighed. He couldn't exactly refuse it, now could he? They were ready for business downstairs. But he was still getting by on the job in the city. He was definitely going to be on his feet a lot. He'd already made flyers at the library about his 2 for one sale, on haircuts. A back to school special. His brain was frazzled. But still he did try his best to spend time with Lucy and the baby. He wanted to trust her. He just didn't know if there were any demons to worry about. Craig seemed to be the only one at the moment, and he might as well be as imaginary as Lucy's. Only, this was real. They had money.
"Well, maybe it was a wedding present." Lucy remained positive as she brought him mid afternoon tea, with quiche.
"You think?" He looked up at her. He doubted that. It was just Craig's way of hiding his dirty little secrets. God knows, where the money came from.
"I know you don't like him much. But maybe he's got regrets. We have to wish the best." She shrugged.
"I know." Todd nodded. "Its just peculiar." Did Craig think he was a failure or was this to help him launch a new life? "It would just be nice if he called, you know."
"Well, he's got a life, too. We can't expect it. Poor Sarah, she's the one who needs him, you know. It'll take some time to get over him. I guess." Lucy sighed as if she had better things to do. She was back to making jewelry.
He guessed she was right. They would be open tomorrow for business. It was really the worst of times as far as the economy went. How in the world did he expect to make a go of it?
