calling the shots

"Can you just tell me..." Ezra gritted hard. "What is going on with you?" Sage was really different around people than when they were alone. He was beginning to think he only brought out the worst in her.

"Nothing." She winced back as if she'd never laughed when everyone was over. She was getting his bed made up. It was so cold in the livingroom now. A freeze came. It was warmer in the basement, only he'd be in a little room. Pitch black. Must have been a closet, he imagined. He didn't want to be this alone.

"No, no..you were someone else." He kept staring at her.

"I wasn't trying to be anything." She went back to her room. Ezra leaned in her doorway, hoping neither of them would fall asleep. He didn't like going to sleep.

"Yes. I think you were. And it was to someone's benefit... that was not mine." He planned to make an issue of it. He squinted in thought. Scratched the back of his head as if he'd get to the bottom of this. "You're using me!" He was shocked. How did he not know? He hugged himself tight. She was an imp of some sort. He was sure of it.

"No, I'm not." She scowled slightly. "Just go to bed, will you?" She looked hurt that he'd think such of her.

"Someone in the band, isn't it? The blonde who's with the blonde? Is that it?" He festered a squint, shook his head, no.

"It doesn't matter. Will you just go to bed." She turned and pulled back the covers to her own bed.

"No." He shook his head. He really wanted to keep talking as he ambled around her space, noticing she had a chest of drawers. Even an old bookcase. She'd settled in for the long haul. It looked to Ezra.

"I'm tired." She sighed.

"Who's fault is that?" He glared back at her.

"Yours." She pulled off her shoes and climbed right under the covers in her dark leggings and oversized T-shirt that swallowed her thin body.

He was in her room now, looking at her things. It wasn't much, but she had a couple of old Mp3 players, a clock. A key necklace and some feather earrings tucked away on the bookshelf.

"Where did you get these?" He felt the soft peacock ends.

"Indian reservation." She yawned.

He sat down on her bed, almost on her feet.

"You've been to a lot of places." He looked at her. "Someone as little and young as you, has been everywhere."

"No, I haven't." She'd never been to Europe.

"You've been more places than I have." He felt sad. It wasn't going to get any better. "Now you're making me sleep in a closet." He turned away and hugged himself in a pout.

"Its not a closet." She told him.

"There are spiders." He looked at her as if she were trying to kill him.

"Get in." She scooched closer to the wall. Ezra peeled off his old sneakers, jeans too, but left on his sweater and cotton boxers. He snapped off the light. It wasn't that warm in the basement, but Sage already warmed the bed. Just what he needed for sleep.

I think I'd laugh a lot less too around him if I had to put up with someone so jealous!

Jealousy never brings something good... It won't here, either, I suppose.

With love, Kirsten

I would not want to sleep with spiders either.
