connecting the generator

"Where is he?" Sage didn't find any comfort in the fact that Spencer didn't come home last night. Not even a text or a phone call. She'd let Ezra stay. He'd slept on the couch. Sage wasn't sure if she liked being left alone with Gage. Sometimes, he could be too much. It was good to have Ezra as a buffer.

"So, when do you go to work?" She brought Ezra coffee. There was a little time to kill before going to the grocery store.

"I volunteer once a week." He thanked her for the coffee.

"Just volunteer? You don't get paid?" She'd always wanted a paycheck.

He shook his head, no. He shelved books for free at the library. "I'm not sure I'm all that good."

"What do you mean? How long have you been there?" She squinted.

"A year or two." He didn't seem all that concerned.

"What? A year or two?" She winced. "If you weren't any good, they would have been done with you." She told him how they were in need of a stock boy down at the grocery store. "Why not get paid?"

"But I'm not sure I'm any good." Again, he sounded pessimistic.

"You sure its not a commitment issue, you're afraid of?" She told him to get ready. "If you're going to be staying around here, I want you to do something..instead..instead of talk all day about what we could be doing." Sage was pretty sure she was looking at the biggest procrastinator in the world.

Oh, Ezra seems to be set in his ways. Possibly, Sage, too.
