off we go

"Honestly, I dunno, if I'll be much help." Casey looked tired, and was the last one there. He really wasn't excited about this. Halloween. Any of the holidays. He was beginning to think.

He was suppose to be excited about all of it. New beginnings with his real Dad. But what had he been doing? Digging the leaves out of the gutter at Sarah's parents house. They were still her parents. And his Dad hadn't exactly been the welcome wagon.

Of course, he'd listen to Sarah talk about his supposed Grandmother, how she still wanted to see him. He could imagine her wanting him to clean her gutters too. That seemed to be all he was good for.

"I'm going to have a talk with him." Sarah informed Casey about the Dad they shared.

"No, you don't have to." A part of Casey felt so out of it. Maybe he didn't want to feel anymore like a son than this man who evidently didn't want to be a father to him. But she insisted. And he'd left to come to this awkward ordeal for the band.

He'd never imagined Todd taking the lead, but he liked it.

"Its a good move." Casey gave him the thumbs up.

"We haven't even sang a whole song yet." Todd reminded him. "We can't even get Allie down here to help."

"All right, I'll see what I can do." He trotted upstairs to see her all alone with the chips. The dip was devoured.

"So you don't like Todd taking over, is that it?" Casey wanted to know.

She gave him a soured look and bit into a chip.

"We kind of need this. You have fans, you know." Of course, he didn't know who he could mentioned. "Nina..Nina loves your voice." He didn't know if that was exactly true, but he thought he heard her mention it once. "Or should I see if Nina can do a good imitation of you?"

She put down the chips, gave him a perturbed look, but it got her downstairs. He hoped she'd sing.

I can't believe Casey did that, but it might have been the right thing.
