Allie still wasn't sure what changed Manny's mind. Perhaps it was his Aunt. But it felt as if a new door opened when he let her spend time with Angie. It had been a good moment at the hospital. Still she wished she'd done more for Declan.
But right now, she had to think about Cory, hoping this didn't make things worse. He didn't even know Manny. Possibly, she didn't know him, either. Yet, she'd been sad for so long. She'd felt as if she'd been lost and suddenly, she'd found what she was looking for.
It was time to be happy.
"I'm going to start work on Angie's room today." It was small, it needed to be repainted. "If I get it cleaned out today, will you help me paint it?" She asked Cory.
"I guess." He shrugged a bit indifferent as he ate the cookie. "What color?" He wanted to know.
"I dunno. I'm thinking lavender. Something calm. Yellow might wake her up early in the morning, you know." She smiled. It was good to be excited. She really hadn't been excited about anything for a good long while.
It was the first time she wasn't thinking Cory would walk away. Go running to Sage. That sort of hesitation wasn't running through her veins now. She felt as if he was trying to reach out to her. They'd had their own gig. Of course, she knew this didn't mean they were leaving the band.
"I want this to work out. I do. I hope." She hugged herself, not knowing what to expect from Manny. This was possibly the strangest thing she'd ever done in her life. Allie thought she'd seen plenty of strange things. It was only what she'd seen. But now it was her turn, to try to make things right. Was that really so strange?
