early to rise

Gage knew something was bothering Sage, but he did his best not to make an issue of it. Instead, he'd cuddled and let the night bring its own bliss. The next morning, he finally found the bag of Gummy bears he'd gotten her on Valentines day, but somehow were lost in their room.

"Hey, look what I found." He brought them to her in the kitchen the next morning. As luck would have it, he saw Noah coming out of Spencer's room instead, on the way to the bathroom.

Gage could ignore that. He supposed. He hugged Sage from behind who was at the stove stirring up steel oats for the both of them. Yet, he couldn't help but notice that someone was in the buff in the upstairs bathroom. He did his best not to even wonder why he was here.

"I guess they made up." Sage whispered.

"Seems to be so." He let her go and went to find the orange juice in the fridge and poured them cups of coffee.

"You OK with that?" Sage looked at him.

"Of course." He grinned as if he would have to be. "But what about you?" He touched her hand when they sat at the table with breakfast, steaming hot in matching bowls.

"What about me?" Sage looked at him as if she was trying not to be mysterious.

"I dunno what it is, but I can sense it. I want you to tell me. I do, but I can't make you. I just hope you will, when ..when it feels right." He sighed, letting it go.

She sipped her coffee while he buttered his toast.

"I guess its not a secret. I don't mean it to be..but..yeah, I do know the bicycle bandit." Sage finally fessed up.

"Really? Wow, how? That's so wild!" Gage was picturing this teenage monster trying to hold up the grocery store and Sage defending her honor and the store with a ball point pin. "Wait? How?" She wasn't a superhero yet.

"He's my little brother. I mean, half brother." She told him.

"You didn't tell me, you had any family around?" Gage winced then. He thought they told each other everything.

"I didn't know." She played with her oatmeal, getting cold.

"Oh."

"I just saw him on TV." She was quiet then.

"Does this mean you're gonna be Aunt?" Gage smiled.

"Yeah, it looks that way." Sage nodded. She took a spoonful of oatmeal then and Gage crunched on his piece of toast while they heard Noah sneak back into Spencer's room.
