fireworks

The night is young

Honestly, Craig felt sorry for Ezra. He really did, but at least he got Jake for the holiday.

"I know she didn't like it much." He shrugged as they set out on an old quilt in the park waiting for the fireworks to commence. "That Ezra has the patience of a Saint." He shook his head. But he couldn't stop smiling.

Jake was right where Craig wanted him. And Jake was so content in his lap. He held on to Craig's fingers as if he was happy to be here.

"Maybe she's not always like that." Jess said as she leaned back in her summer dress. Her elbows held her up as she flicked her dark hair behind her back. She watched her son with the sparklers. "Maybe you..you trigger, something, that just gets to her, you know."

"I guess I do. But I'm trying..I'm really trying.." He shook his head. There was no need to talk about it with Jess. He needed to let it go. If only Sarah could let it go.

Honestly, he didn't know who she was anymore. Yet, what hurt the most was the fact he was certain it was his fault that she wasn't that girl he remembered with the sweet smile.

"I just hope she's good to Ezra." He couldn't help but say. "He's really been there for her. I know. Spencer told me, how he helped her through her pregnancy. And he's got his own stuff to deal with. Finding a job."

Just then the shot of light spread across the dark sky. Then another, like popcorn beginning to pop. He smiled. He couldn't let Sarah's nature hold on to him with guilt. Besides, he wanted to watch Jake watch the fireworks.

I do like them together. I like that Craig is worried about Ezra.
