Casey wasn't sure who this Ali chick was. He was stunned. Immediately, he thought of someone from school. The high school where he worked as a janitor.
He sucked in a breath. Blinking a couple of times. There was something familiar. His heartbeat quickened. He wasn't sure how to react. He was late as it was. He just started jamming. Did a bit of a pep talk about how well they'd done. How Cameron was happy with them. He guessed. He didn't really know. Wasn't like they really hung out. She did her thing and was out of there. Honestly, she was a private person. But a lot of the college crowd knew her and her band. It really was kind of a welcome call. And no one had threatened to throw them off the stage so maybe they were doing their part to pump up the crowd for Cameron and the Dolls.
"Lets just keep doing what we're doing, OK." He was low key and looked back at the plump girl sitting there on the stairway that he'd had to squeeze by. Perhaps it was best to act as if she wasn't there, but he couldn't help but notice her. He didn't really want to. So they went over their songs. Its was a slow process. But it was over quicker than he imagined.
They were breaking down the equipment soon enough and there was Spencer. Casey found himself wanting to make conversation.
"So-" He looked at Benny not sure what he could and couldn't say about the Ka-Rad and Spencer situation. "So, so hows everything going?"
"Good." Spencer just looked at him as if Casey was being weird. His answer was short and sweet.
Casey thought he might choke then. He grabbed his electric guitar quick enough and made a fast exit. He didn't even want to know if she'd watched him or not. He knew she did. He felt goosebumps prick down his back. He felt so awkward. Kind of sad. He wasn't sure if he wanted to know why he had these feelings about this thing that was in the basement.
