who's to know

"OK, clear skies. We are going on a roadtrip!" Keith informed Benny.

"A roadtrip?" Benny winced hard. "You never said anything about a roadtrip?" Breakfast was barely over. Benny was getting the dirty dishes in the dishwasher.

"Come on." Keith hurried him a long as he put a few cold sodas in a cooler along with a jar of cornnuts. "You can't get out if this. You're driving."

"What? No, I'm..I'm not ready." Benny shook his head. They'd had a few little trial by error moments the last few weeks. But somehow Benny found a way to get out of going. People were on vacation down at the comic book store. He had to be there. He didn't have time for driving lessons. This was making  him more nervous by the second.

"The more you drive the less you'll feel intimidated. Practice makes perfect." Well, it sounded like a great idea. But Benny didn't feel like doing it.

"What if we get in an accident?" Benny said it like doom was waiting for them. And it wasn't out to the fancy mall in the middle of nowhere.

"Don't even talk like that." Keith reached for his keys. He jingled them with a smile as he held them up in front of Benny who rolled his eyes. He hesitated for a moment then took the keys. He let out a heavy breath as his dark shaggy hair slid across his eyes.

"Maybe you could get a haircut too." Keith persisted.

Finally, they made their way to Keith's nice sports car. Benny guessed he felt comfortable enough in it now. A part of him, felt he didn't deserve to drive it, but Keith wouldn't let him think that long.

"You'll do fine. You need hours, you know. Hours of practice." Keith watched him check the mirror and get ready. Benny, switched the CD player louder. He definitely needed some tunes to get him started. Naturally, Keith turned down the sound.

"I can't let you get distracted." Keith informed him.

Benny held on to the wheel til his knuckles went white. He got out of their block and started toward the downtown area.

"I don't even know where we're going." Benny finally snapped.

"Where ever you want to go." Keith shrugged.

Benny smiled. A bit of him felt in control now. Maybe he'd take Keith to somewhere he'd never been to before. Keith said he had to drive. Benny had no idea where this trip might be going.
