the day after

Sage was torn. She couldn't let Spencer leave Ezra out in the cold. He was like family to her now. Maybe she'd never be nothing more than a little sister to Ezra, but she had to stand up for him. It would just be wrong, otherwise.

It was already  past ALL SAINTS DAY, and Ezra slept soundly now in his own room. She couldn't help but think she'd been just awful, nagging him about having a job.

Of course, there was Declan to think about. What had she done? She wanted to blame it on Halloween. They had no business being together. Making out most of the night. Still, she'd never felt like this before. Possibly, it was the fact that no one had ever exactly thought of her as a lover, either. Well, not someone stone cold sober. But there was a silence now as daybreak came.

Maybe Declan was just an illusion of some kind. How could she have faith in someone who never said anything to her, as it was. He was strange, wasn't he? Had he ever said, "Hi, I'm Declan, and I'm so happy to see you.."

OK, maybe he wouldn't talk like that. But that was just it, they hadn't talked. Just kissed. This love or lust she had for Declan was vanishing quick. Maybe it was just as well. She needed to look over Ezra, anyway.

Just when she thought he might be dead to the world, he shot up as if he had somewhere to go. But he squinted hard. He laid back down instantly.

She felt his forehead, see if it was feverish.

"I don't feel so good." He sounded as if he might throw up.

"You do know what happened, don't you?" Sage looked at him as if he'd been in a coma.

"Yeah, guess so." He said his head hurt. Maybe water would help.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She handed him a glass of water.

"Because." His face tensed. "You'd think.." He slightly scowled as if he knew very well what she thought. "Don't look at me like that, OK?"

"You need to be on your meds. You need a doctor." She told him.

"I don't like them. And they would do nothing for me, but..." He shook his head, no.

Now she knew why he didn't drive. Why, he was the outsider.

"But don't you want to be home..so..." Sage started.

He shook his head, no. He acted as if he were a lost cause. Ezra hugged himself, turning from her in a fetal position. Sage wondered if he'd ever get out of bed.

Well...

I like Ezra more and more now. I have to admit, I'd love to see Rob in a part like this..vulnerable, but perhaps stronger than he knows.
