oh, so close

Allie was devastated. No one came around to tell her about Angie's operation. She heard it from Sage who called to let her know.

"Why did she know? And I didn't?" It was easy to hate Manny, still. She thought of the things he said. Still she didn't want to repeat them, nor relive them. What was done was done. Of course, a lot of it had to do with her mother who wanted her to give up Angie. She was told it was the right thing to do. And back then, it was hard to consider the cold hard fact, she did what she was told.

"Sage would have never known if Declan hadn't told Gage." Cory reminded her. She guessed she'd under-estimated Cory. Maybe Sage, too. She seemed to care. Allie was less suspicious of her now. But still Allie felt as if she was behind a of wall of ice, of some kind, and she guessed it was her own doing.

She let Cory give her a hug. Yet, she needed to see this Declan. Let him know, she was grateful. Happy, he was going to help her little girl. Even if Manny wasn't exactly letting her see her. There was a lot of hate that she couldn't possibly undo. But seriously, it was ridiculous that Manny was acting this way.

So as soon as Cory let her go and he could see she was fine and he needed to go to work, she went straight  to the grocery store to find Declan. Of course, it was Sage who she saw first at her cashier station.

"Declan?" Sage looked kind of puzzled. "Yeah, he's here." Sage took her down at the end of the bread isle where Declan was clicking prices on peanut butter and jam. His back was to Allie.

"Hey, Declan, someone wants to meet you," Sage said. Naturally, Declan looked as if he was scared to even turn and look.

"Hi." He was kind of coy, but he managed to shake her hand. Sage left them, to get back to her station. It was a quiet morning.

"Hello." Allie felt a little light headed. "I'm..I'm Angie's mother."

"Oh."

Now she didn't know what to say. She wanted to say how grateful she was, but it spilled into tears. "Is..is there anything I ..I can do for you?"

"Well..." He looked at her hand on his. He really didn't want her to let go. "Uh..no, of course, not..but, do you want to have breakfast?"

"Yeah, lets do that." Allie smiled as if she might like this beginning too.
