holding on

"What did he say to you?" Trevor's so serious eyes looked over Fergie as she sat ever so miserable in the hospital bed, staring at her food that was growing cold.

"It was nothing." She sounded as whatever it was..was now a lost cause.

"How..how did he even know you were here?" He winced. "That was Simon, wasn't it?"

"Can..can you just leave me ..alone, right now?" She was on the brink of tears.

"Fergie, we are trying to help you." Trevor looked at the food. He so wanted to snatch the bacon but he didn't. Instead he edged down on the bed. "Benny told me about your parents." He was even lipped. "Why didn't you tell me? You, didn't say anything about what was going on, at home?" His voice cracked. He could hardly hear himself. He sighed then. "I know..I know it was me. It was me..who got you..into this mess."

He winced hard, not having a clue how to get her out of this.

"I don't-" She started to say, but she couldn't look at him. "I know you don't love me."

Trevor pressed his lips tight. He couldn't hide a thing from her.

"Maybe..maybe..its just... I really don't know what I'm doing." He scratched the back of his neck in thought as he looked back at his sister and her boyfriend. Finally, he looked back at Fergie. "I've never really seen it, you know. Love. I mean, I haven't actually had that, before..before now. I mean, my sister. She loves me." His eyes couldn't help but let his emotions slip. His eyes burned with tears. "But I really didn't know if..if I could find that again. All those foster homes. Strangers. God, I dunno if I even knew how to love myself. Then..then I met you. And..you know, you were a real big mystery, too."

He wiped his runny nose with the sleeve of his plaid shirt. He took a deep breath.

"Hey, you're the mother of my child." He could barely say. "I..I can't let you go." He was full of emotion as he took her hand. He noticed the chipped black nail polish. He knew how tough she wanted to be. Maybe she was now. She'd been in labor for 27 hours. But he knew she was delicate, like a little lost black bird. "You know, you're gonna come home, with us. We want you there. I want you there."

Trevor did his best to smile. Honestly, it would be a new start. He waited for a yes, but she pushed her tray away and put her arms around his neck, bringing her down to him. He was pretty sure she would never let him go. Hopefully, he could get used to that thought.
